I’ve been getting asked the question why a lot lately (why did you quit CrossFit, why are you doing Beachbody programs, why did you become a coach) so I wanted to share a little bit about my why…..

My main reason for why is that what I was doing just wasn’t working for me anymore. I wasn’t getting the physical results I was wanted doing in CrossFit anymore. Now I’m not saying that CrossFit is bad, or it won’t work for you, or that you shouldn’t do it. I’m just saying it wasn’t working for me. Honestly CrossFit did some amazing things for me. It helped me with confidence in my physical abilities. I never thought my body would be capable of running a 1/2 marathon, or doing pullups, do a tough mudder, back squatting over 200#s or even climb a rope and CrossFit showed me that I am capable of doing all of those things. I also have made life long friends because of the relationships I’ve made through the CrossFit community. CrossFit has been a wonderful an d beautiful part of my life.

However, after five years of doing CrossFit I had come to a place where I wasn’t getting the results in my body that I wanted. I don’t know if doing the same types of workouts for 5 years led to this or that I’m just getting older and my body is changing. Regardless I had hit a wall and wasn’t happy. So when a good friend of mine asked me to join her challenge doing the 21 day fix I figured what’s the risk???? I thought, worst case scenario I hate it and go back to CrossFit in three weeks……. why not give it a shot. I jumped in and tried the 21 day fix and saw a transformation in my body and the transformation was a start in the direction I was trying to go with my goals, which made me want more.

Being that I was so excited about my own results, I wanted to share with others what I had experienced because I thought maybe there are other people experiencing the same plateaus and frustrations that I was feeling and needed a change.

Another thing that being a Beachbody coach has done for me is allowing me to own my own business. I have a graduate level business degree and have always dreamed about owning my own business but I have been too afraid to jump in and start something. Being a coach has allowed me to use my business school skills and run my business the way I want with minimal costs to maintain and start. So now I’m fulfilling my dream with something I’m truly passionate about. I am so thankful that I’ve had this opportunity.

Through all this I’ve found that it gives me great joy and happiness to help others get on track to meet their own goals, which is why I have become a coach. I know have the ability to run my own business of helping people and it brings a passion and happiness to my life that is truly wonderful.

So that is my story of why……

 

3 Day Refresh

Hi there! So I have decided to do the 3 day refresh after the holiday weekend and some bad  meals I ate that have made me feel a little low energy and bloaty. The 3 day refresh is a great way to kick-start a healthier lifestyle, and to make a clean break eating habits that are not supporting your health and weight-loss goals. Some people like to use the 3 day refresh as a one time kick-start while others choose to do it monthly as a maintenance or tune-up. Since this is my first go round. I want to see how it makes me feel than decide if it’s something I will do again in the future on a monthly or quarterly maintenance program.

Alright so I got my package on a Thursday. It came with 3 packets of fiber sweep drink. This is a blend of soluble and insoluble fibers that is supposed to gently and naturally eliminate waste from the digestive system, while still supporting healthy intestinal flora. This is a one drink per day at mid morning time and contains psyllium fiber husk, flax, and chia.

Next I found 6 packages of high protein vanilla shake powder. These shakes include 20 grams of plant based protein, 22 essential vitamins and minerals, and probiotics. These shakes are to be taken at lunch and dinner for the three days. Normally the 3 day refresh would also come with three packages of regular shakeology to drink for your breakfast; however, I all ready get shakeology home direct so I did not purchase the pack that included shakeology and will just use my own.

As I read through the program I see that it recommends herbal teas throughout the day, plenty of water, and if you choose to exercise to only do low impact to mild exercises. I will likely stick with yoga and Pilates for the three days. Also it does recommend you refrain from coffee and caffeinated teas during the three day period but also states if you absolutely need coffee to drink it black with no milk, sugar, or unnatural sugar substitutes. The program offers up green tea as a good caffeine substitute for the three days.

So the meal plan is pretty straightforward. It does not include any meat or dairy but explains that between the shakes and some of the vegetables will give you enough protein for the three days. Here is an overview of the daily meal plan:

The plan also gives you a list of fruit, vegetable, healthy fats, and dinners to choose from and includes this great fill out so you can plan ahead and know what to get from the grocery store. I found this very helpful. Also, the program identifies which foods are less likely to cause gas so I am trying to stick to those foods so my co-worker doesn’t have to deal with any flatulence since I will be doing this program on two work days 🙂

Ok so tomorrow 9/11/16 will be my first official day. I am headed to the grocery store to get all the necessary ingredients to get me through. Will post more soon!

Update 9/14/2016

Ok! I successfully made it through the 3 day refresh and I have to say I feel so good! It was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I never felt famished and it was almost too much food if you could imagine that. Here is my lunch and dinner from the first day. Lunch consists of the following: fruit, veggie, healthy fat, and a protein shake and it looked like this.img_0937

In between lunch and dinner you can have unsweetened herbal and another veggie serving with a healthy fat. Another great thing about this detox is there are dinner recipes. Dinner options include a kale salad, a spinach salad, stir fry, coconut steamed veggies, roasted asparagus with almonds, or lemony green beans. Here are two of the dinners I ate during the program (stir fry and spinach salad).

Here is a peak at my meal prepping for the days I was at work. It was pretty easy to get things prepped to take with me and I pre-made my lunch shake the morning of and just stuck it in my work freezer.

The only downside of the program for me was the fiber sweep drink. This is only a once per day drink and I could get it all down as long as it was super cold and I drank it fast but its pretty gritty and gets super thick fast so my recommendation is to plug your nose and pound it. Other than that I highly recommend at least trying this once especially if you are feeling weighed down. Overall I lost a total of 6 inches and 2 pounds. I feel like this program was very successful to me in both for the way my body looks and feels. Here are some before and after pics.
