TurboFire Weeks 1-4

I survived! Well…..I survived the first four of twelve weeks of the TurboFire program that is. What is TurboFire you ask? It’s described on the BeachBody website as, “The intense cardio conditioning program from fitness innovator Chalene Johnson. This 90-day weight loss and body slimming program will help you get that leaner, sexier body you’ve always wanted by burning up to 9x more fat and calories than regular cardio.” I describe it as nonstop cardio/kick boxing with a few dance moves thrown in there and boy is it hard. I have to say of all the BeachBody programs I have done this far, this one has been the most challenging because there are little to no breaks (depending on the workout), and a lot…..A LOT of choreography.

I’ll be honest, I am glad that I workout in my garage where nobody can see me because I felt a little silly the first week while I was doing this program. The good news is that if you stick to, you will start to pick up on the moves and the fast pace. One of the things I like about this program is that although it is challenging, it is really fun! I can also see that my body has continued to tone up, which I am confident comes from all the cardio. Here is a progress picture of me from July (on the left) and this past weekend (on the right). I believe that following the meal plan along with the exercise program has led to my progress towards reaching my goals to trim down and tone my stomach and booty. I plan to continue this program through the twelve weeks in hopes to achieve my goals and will keep you all informed of how its working. Here are a few pics of some of the yummy meals (taco salad, lentil soup, and chicken lo mein with sweet potato noodles) I have been trying, and as always if you have any questions please leave a comment or send me an email.

Reconciling Relationships

Last weeks message at church really struck me hard, and its taken me a week of prayer and soul searching before I could come to post about it.

The title of the sermon was reconciling relationships, and boy is this an area in my life that I really struggle in. I’m paraphrasing here but Pastor Dakota said, “Having and living in peace with those around us is essential to our own happiness/fulfillment. Division in your heart spreads to all areas of your life”………….Ouch………. I have something to admit. I get offended…..more often than I would like to tell you, and as sad as it is to write, I have been offended by lots of things (things people have said,  done, or I just perceive they have done) and because of that offense, no matter how big or small, I have a habit of completely writing those people off. I cut them out of my life acting as if I never even knew them. Not proud of this one bit but it’s true.

Pastor Dakota went on to define reconciliation in biblical terms as the process of two previously alienated parties coming to peace with each other. Because God  has reconciled us to himself through Jesus Christ, we can reconcile with each other, no longer counting our offenses against one another. He went on to talk about how the Bible really places importance on the family structure and we studied the reconciliation that happened between Jacob and Esau in the Book of Genesis.

Powerful stuff right? I will tell you I got very emotional a few times throughout this service and the reason for this is I have a very broken relationship with my own Mother. We’ve struggled for a long time with our relationship and the last offense that occurred (I believe we are both guilty of offending each other) caused a break that has kept us from speaking for over 15 months. I am not proud of this and it kills me to write it but it’s something in my life that I believe has kept me from fulfillment and from growing in my relationship with the Lord.

We dove deep into the aspects of reconciliation and some of the major points that were discussed include:

-Reconciliation must be intentional

-Reconciliation must be rooted in prayer

-Reconciliation requires vulnerability

-Reconciliation nears completion in forgiveness

As I walk down this path of reconciliation, I know that it is a place in my heart that aches and needs repairing. I know I cannot change others but I can change myself, and I am choosing to not let the things that have happened in the past define my future…..

Core de Force Final Week

Ok so first off I am major slacking on posting this update and I don’t really have a great excuse other than I have been off for the last 10 days and just enjoying my free time over the Christmas break. But, I am back at today starting with this blog post. I completed the 30 day Core de Force program last Tuesday and took my measurements. Over the 30 day period I lost a total of 3.8 pounds and 3.3 inches. On paper (or laptop) that doesn’t sound like a whole bunch but I can tell you that I feel it! I feel it in my clothes, I feel it in my stomach, and I feel it in my confidence.

So I am not going to sit here and tell you that this program was so easy and anyone can do it (hearts, butterflies, and fairy tales) because its not easy. It really made me work my booty of and it was hard sticking to it over the holiday with all the parties, treats at work, potlucks, and my 30th birthday. Some days you just don’t want to get up and workout, or prep healthy meals, or just choose not to indulge in every single treat that someone brings in (not saying you can’t indulge, but you don’t have to indulge every single time). And you know what? After I worked out or ate my nutritious meal, I felt good. In fact I felt better than I did while I was trying to talk myself out of staying consistent.

I am so thankful this program had modifier movements because I sure needed them. There is nothing I repeat NOTHING wrong with having to modify the workouts. It not only keeps you from getting discouraged and giving up, but you will still get results because even the modification is still a workout. Anyways I am very thankful I did this program and finished it. It was both a physical and mental challenge for me and I can confidentially say it was a success. It’s not easy to stick with a program even for just 30 days but I promise you that if you do, you will see results in more than just the physical. Take care everyone 🙂
