Soak your beans over night with your Crockpot/Slow Cooker turned off.
Rinse the beans and dump out the water the next morning before you you begin preparing the rest of the ingredients.
Gather the remaining ingredients.
Place beans and broth and water in Crockpot/Slow Cooker, and chop up you onion and jalapeno (if using) and add to the Crockpot/Slow Cooker.
Diced up the ham and remove any fat and add to the Crockpot/Slow Cooker with the remaining ingredients. Cook on high for 4-5 hours or low for 7-8 hours
Serve and enjoy! Tastes best on cold/windy days while watching football :)
